Most Realtors are resident real estate agents, but Jerry Hocker in Oklahoma City, broker-owner of Coldwell Banker Commercial-Hocker & Associates, says he finds value in the ³higher level of professionalism´ of the National Association of REALTORS® and its state and local groups.

Jerry Hocker, broker-owner of Oklahoma City's Coldwell Banker Commercial-Hocker & Associates, is a rare bird for a commercial realty broker:

He's a Realtor. Most commercial brokers are not, preferring other professional groups. Hocker recently talked about why, as well as other topics.

Q: Unlike many commercial brokers, you've been very active in the Oklahoma City Metro Association of REALTORS® and the Oklahoma Association of REALTORS®. What do you get out of your involvement? What are the others missing?

A: Most of the commercial brokers are not REALTORS®. Many times the general public fails to understand that a Realtor ascribes to a higher level of professionalism and is held accountable for his conduct by the REALTOR® association.

During the late '70s and '80s, the CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) designation was only awarded to one belonging to the REALTOR® association. The National Association of REALTORS® has always been a leading organization in predicting trends and collecting data on a national basis as well as a powerful lobbying group in Washington.
