The 51st Legislative Session Wraps Up
|
|
|
It was a busy week at the State Capitol
for OAR as the legislative session drew
to a close Friday, May 23. Despite last
minute whispers of a special session to
deal with bond issues, the legislature
finished business as expected. Three
bills supported by OAR remain on
Governor Brad Henry’s desk awaiting
approval. He has until June 7 to sign
these bills into law:
-
HB1564 by Rep Steve Martin,
R-Bartlesville, and Sen. Cliff
Branan, R-Oklahoma City. This bill
requires out-of-state real estate
licensees seeking an Oklahoma
license to take the section of our
licensing exam that is particular to
Oklahoma.
-
SB1672 by Sen. Kenneth Corn,
D-Poteau, and Rep. Rex Duncan,
R-Sand Springs. This bill specifies
that property may be considered a
nuisance when a felony conviction
occurs under the Uniformed Controlled
Dangerous Substances Act, not just a
violation of the Act.
-
HB1453 by Rep. Rob Johnson,
R-Kingfisher, and Sen. Earl
Garrison, D-Muskogee. This bill
creates a Task Force to Study the
Digitization of County Records,
which will include OAR
representation.

NAR and Dept. of Justice Announce
Settlement
|
|
|
The National Association of REALTORS®
has reached a favorable settlement with
the U.S. Department of Justice,
resolving litigation between them
regarding how listings from multiple
listing services are displayed on
brokers' virtual office Web sites. The
proposed final order, to be filed with
the federal district court in Chicago
today, validates NAR's longstanding
Internet Data Exchange (IDX) policy and
strengthens the rule governing
participation in multiple listing
services.
The final order expressly provides that
NAR does not admit any liability or
wrongdoing and NAR will make no payments
in connection with the settlement.

Background Checks May Slow Licensing
Process
|
|
|
You're ready to embark on your new real
estate career. You even have a potential
client waiting in the wings. You've
passed the test and now all you have to
do is ease through the background check.
There are no skeletons in the closet; no
reason it should take very long, right?
Maybe, maybe not.
Because it can take around 60 days
to accomplish the background check, the
Oklahoma Real Estate Commission advises
people to start their application
process when they start their
pre-license course. They will not issue
the license without it.
about the background check process and
procedures. Start early, your clients
can't wait! |
