Letter from the 2008 NAR Political Fundraising Chair Larry Edwards

Welcome to the RPAC web page. In the 2006 Election Cycle, RPAC spent $12 million to support REALTOR®-friendly candidates – a new record, but which fall soon enough when we spend $17 million in the 2008 elections! RPAC is not only powerful, but also bipartisan, splitting our contributions almost evenly between the two political parties. Political party is not a REALTOR® criteria – we support candidates who support REALTORS®. We call them members of the “REALTOR® Party.”

In addition to direct contributions, RPAC sent out 1.5 million pieces of mail to our members encouraging them to vote for REALTOR®-supported candidates. Through our Independent Expenditure program, RPAC spent over $4.3 million dollars on television, radio and direct mail in support of six REALTOR® “Champions” in highly competitive races, half of which were successful. However, RPAC never loses when we are loyal and support those who have supported us – that credibility pays enormous dividends toward advancing our agenda on Capitol Hill. Please remember, however, that all this political muscle needs your help to keep it competitive and effective, so we hope you find this page useful in assisting you with your RPAC efforts. Please feel free to contact any of the RPAC Trustees or NAR staff if we may be of further assistance. Always remember, RPAC is your best investment in real estate…

Larry Edwards
2008 RPAC Chair

Where do your RPAC dollars go?

Contributions are not deductible for income tax purposes. Contributions to RPAC are voluntary and are used for political purposes. The amount suggested is merely a guideline and you may contribute more or less than the suggested amount. You may refuse to contribute without reprisal and the National Association of REALTORS® or any of its state associations or local boards will not favor or disfavor any member because of the amount contributed. 70% of each contribution is used by your state PAC to support state and local political candidates. Until your state PAC reaches its RPAC goal, 30% is sent to National RPAC to support federal candidates and is charges against your limits under 2 U.S.C. 441a; after the state PAC reaches its RPAC goal it may elect to retain your entire contribution for use in supporting state and local candidates.
